Metro Rod support boosts Foundation’s reach at The Nest

Among the facilities at the Foundation’s community hub The Nest is the showpiece full-size grass pitch, known as the Metro Rod Arena.

Since 2018, the Metro Rod Arena at The Nest has played host to a wide range of sessions and fixtures, including some of the Foundation’s vital community activity with people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Memorable highlights among the usage of the pitch include a fixture between the Foundation’s Premier League Kicks representative team and their Aston Villa Foundation counterparts, while the adult pan-disability squad played a friendly encounter with Street Life Soccer programme participants. Norwich City Women have used the arena for an FA Cup fixture and the Royal Navy’s Women’s team held a training session on the pitch.

Regular use of the Arena also comes from local grassroots teams and the Foundation’s own Football & Education programmes.

The Arena has been sponsored by commercial and domestic drainage specialists Metro Rod, who have become a Primary Partner of The Nest.

Metro Rod Norwich’s Director, Shaun O’Brien explained their desire to support:

“As a sports enthusiast and father of five, I understand the vital role that sport plays in supporting and inspiring the youth and community at large, especially in alleviating mental health issues, which has never been more relevant than during this pandemic.

“As a local business, employing people from within the community, the wellbeing of Norfolk residents as a whole is vitally important to our business. Thus, when we were approached by Norwich City Community Sports Foundation to assist them in supporting some of the most vulnerable people across our local community to achieve their goals through sport we wholeheartedly said yes.”

Ian Thornton, Chief Executive of Norwich City Community Sports Foundation said:

“We must offer our sincere thanks to Shaun and the team at Metro Rod for their sponsorship of the Arena.

“The Arena is the first pitch you see as you enter the site and it makes a terrific first impression, especially when it is in use by one of the Foundation’s community programmes.

“It has been clear that the Metro Rod team share our passion and sense of responsibility to support the community’s wellbeing through the power of sport and the Arena has already allowed hundreds of people to experience the benefits.”
